Here is another photo from Sian Sumners' albums produced by her grandfather when he served with the Royal Air Force in Iraq (RAF Hinaidi and RAF Shaibah) as a Squadron Leader during the late nineteen-twenties. This is a photograph of the Maude Bridge, taken in 1929. The bridge was built on thirty-five pontoons across the Tigris River in November 1918 and could carry vehicles up to fifteen tons. The bridge could be opened in a matter of minutes by means of a powerful winch.
