Steve Buster Johnson - Official Historian for 6 Squadron Royal Air Force

Twenty years ago whilst researching my grandfather’s WW1 service in the British Royal Flying Corps for my first book, ‘For God England & Ethel’ I discovered he served for two years on the Western Front with 6 Squadron. Since that time and eight books later I have accumulated a wealth of information on the role 6 Squadron played in various wars and armed conflicts, from WW1 to the early 1950s. With the knowledge I have been able to assist 6 Squadron with various queries and have contributed on a regular basis to the 6 Squadron quarterly journal, The Tin-opener. It was therefore gratifying when the new President of the 6 Squadron Association, Wg Cdr 'Willie' Cruikshank, approached me last month to offer me, Steve Buster Johnson, the position of official historian for 6 Squadron Royal Air Force. I don't imagine that my work commitments will change in any way, or that it will be a paid position (!) but it is nice to be recognised for the work that I have done.
