8 Squadron was based at RAF Hinaidi between 29th December 1921 and 27th February 1927. During that time, nine members of the squadron lost their lives in the service of their country and were buried at the long abandoned CWGC Ma'Asker Al Raschid RAF Cemetery in southern Baghdad. With only 77 identifiable headstones remaining at the cemetery it is not surprising that only three of the surviving headstones are for 8 Squadron burials in Iraq. Attached to this post are photographs of these three headstones, though only a small fragment of the headstone for AC2 James Walters remains. Note also that Pilot Officer Robert L Hartley was the holder of the Air Force Cross (AFC).
